About Me
Hello! My name is Benjamin Kircher. I am currently in my final year at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. I am anticipating to graduate after the spring semester of 2014, and am majoring in Criminal Justice and double minoring in Biology and Psychology. I have always dreamed of working in the animal welfare, rehabilitation, and law field since a very young age and Loras College has given me the opportunity to start down that path. Loras has also provided me with learning opportunities to broaden my knowledge and skill set not only in my field of interest, but in a vast number of different areas. My experiences at Loras College have increased my passion and dedication for animals and have opened up a number of different roads for my future.
I believe that majoring in criminal justice was the perfect fit for myself and my future plans. Throughout my four years at Loras, I took a multitude of courses that taught me a lot about the criminal justice system in the United States and across the globe. I learned about a vast array of issues plaguing contemporary criminal justice, and about an alternative approach called restorative justice that could possibly be the solution to these issues moving forward. Also, I learned about criminal offenders, what motivates them, and some theories society may be able to use to explain and prevent offending. All of this is just a very small sample of what my major taught me. In my future, I will use what I learned and apply it in ways that I can to explain animal cruelty and use my knowledge to my benefit to fight against it. To reflect what I learned about the criminal justice system, I attached one of my favorite papers that I wrote at Loras. It is a description in depth of juvenile drug abuse and the programs currently implemented in America to treat this issue.
